The Head Volleyball Coach at Montesano High School (MHS), a 1A school in the Evergreen League, holds a comprehensive leadership role overseeing all facets of the volleyball program. This position encompasses responsibilities that extend beyond coaching, ensuring the program's success both on and off the court.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership and Development:
1. Coordinate and supervise the entire high school volleyball program, including varsity and sub-varsity teams. 2. Design and implement training programs to enhance athletic skills and team performance. 3. Develop and maintain a positive team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal growth.
Staff Management:
1. Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches, ensuring alignment with the program's philosophy and goals. 2. Conduct regular meetings with coaching
Athlete Development and Welfare:
1. Provide instruction on game strategies and performance principles to help athletes achieve program goals. 2. Monitor academic eligibility and support student-athletes in balancing academic and athletic commitments. 3. Ensure the safety and well-being of athletes during practices, games, and travel.
Administrative Duties:
1. Manage game day preparations, including scheduling, transportation, and equipment logistics. 2. Oversee the maintenance and inventory of equipment and uniforms, ensuring timely submission to the Athletic Director post-season. 3. Coordinate with the Athletic Director for scheduling games, practices, and other events.
Compliance and Professional Development:
1. Adhere to Montesano School District policies, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) regulations, and the Coaches Code of Conduct. 2. Participate in required training, clinics, and professional development opportunities to stay current with coaching standards and safety protocols.
Community and Parent Engagement:
1. Communicate effectively with parents and the community regarding program philosophy, expectations, and schedules. 2. Foster relationships with local media to promote the volleyball program and highlight student-athlete achievements. 3. Encourage community involvement and support for the volleyball program through events and outreach.
