 2009 High School Football Championships This Weekend

Tacoma Dome will be host site for all six games 

RENTON, WA (Monday, November 30, 2009) – This Friday, December 4, and Saturday, December 5, the fall season of high school state championships concludes with the 2009 WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires Gridiron Classic.

Football brackets for all six classifications can be accessed by clicking on the ‘Tournaments’ link at the top of www.wiaa.com.  In addition, team match-ups, win/loss records and game times are included.  Here are the match-ups for this weekend:

Friday          1B: Tri-Cities Prep (10-2) vs. Lummi (9-3), 4 p.m.
                    3A: Liberty (12-1) vs. Bellevue (11-2), 7:30 p.m.

Saturday      2A: West Valley (Spokane) (13-0) vs. Lynden (12-1), 10 a.m.
                    1A: Connell (13-0) vs. Cascade Christian (13-0), 1 p.m.
                    2B: Colfax (13-0) vs. Adna (12-0), 4 p.m.
                    4A: Ferris (10-3) vs. Skyline (11-2), 7:30 p.m.

Fox Sports Northwest (FSN) will telecast the 3A Championship live on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and the 4A Championship live on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased by contacting the participating high schools or by visiting a Ticketmaster outlet.  Ticket prices for high school students with a valid ASB card and senior citizens are $10 for one day and $16 for both days of the tournament.  Tickets for adults are $14 for one day and $22 for both days of the tournament.  For more information on the 2009 WIAA/Diary Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires Gridiron Classic, contact the WIAA office at (425) 687-8585.

The WIAA’s Leadership through Education, Activities and Personal development (L.E.A.P.) Committee (WIAA’s student leadership group) will be collecting coins to benefit Special Olympics Washington at the Gridiron Classic. The L.E.A.P. Committee members will be running activities at half time of each game in which schools will compete to see who can raise the most money. Fans are encouraged to bring their spare quarters, pennies, nickels and dimes to the games.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association exists to assist member schools in operating student programs that foster achievement, respect, equity, enthusiasm, and excellence in a safe and organized environment.
